Bhrigu Lake is a high altitude alpine lake, which is just three days hike from Manali. The highlighting feature of Bhrigu Lake Trek is that you get to climb an ambitious height of 14,000 ft in just three days, which is usually achieved on the fourth or fifth day of the Himalayan treks and that too after rigorous climbing. The steep trail goes through virgin forests and lush green meadows which open into the beautiful campsite of Rola Khuli. On your way, lay your eyes on Hanuman Tibba and Seven Sisters peaks. On the second day, you trek uphill to the oval-shaped lake which is believed to change colors with seasons. One would trade the world to experience the serene environment around the lake. To top it all, because of the soaring height, the clouds will be floating around you. Adore the traditional villages and apple orchards in the last leg of the descent.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrive in Manali. Drive to Gulaba (22Kms). Trek to Rola Kholi (12,500 feet approx.), – 7 km, 4 to 5 hour trek

Reach Main Govt. Bus Stand in Manali by 0900 Hrs sharp. Please note that we will not be able to wait for anyone any further. A beautiful town in Himachal Pradesh, Manali is at an altitude of 6730 ft. Trekking in Manali is very popular as it's a trailhead for various treks. From here we drive to Gulaba which would take close to two hours. Manali to Gulaba distance is 22 Kms. However, the road to Gulaba can be crowded on weekends as the same road is taken by tourists heading to Rohtang Pass. Hike through the forest and meadows with Manali and Solang Valley in the background. Some of the notable peaks in view are Mt. Hanuman Tibba and the Seven Sister peaks seated in Beas Kund Valley. Carry sufficient water in your bottle as there is very limited/no source (depending on the season) of water before Kolang Nallah. After 3-4 hours of the hike we will reach the Kolang Nallah. There is a makeshift wooden bridge on this Nallah for most of the months. After crossing the bridge, hike for another 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Rola Kholi, our campsite for the day. Rola Kholi is covered by mountains on 3 sides which protect it from harsh winds. Rola Kholi is an ideal campsite also because the water stream flows very close to the camping site.

Day 2

Rola Kholi to Bhrigu Lake (14,000 ft) and back to Rola Kholi - 10 km

We start early in the morning as the trail today is a long and steep one. As we trek to the lake, the trail changes colour from green to brown and to white (in winters). The participants are requested to be extra cautious today because the path is through boulders and scree. Once we reach the lake, the view is breathtaking because of the frozen lake (frozen almost in all months). If you happen to visit the lake during the summer, you will find grass and tiny alpine flowers surrounding the lake. After spending some time at the lake, we retrace our steps back to our campsite at Rola Kholi.

Day 3

Rola Kholi to Gulaba and drive to Manali - 8 km, 4 hour trek.

Today, we will trek back to the trailhead at Gulaba and board our vehicles for the drive to Manali. Expect to reach Manali by 4 pm. This could be delayed by heavy traffic in the peak summer months, so book your return from Manali late at night. The trip ends in Manali.
